"You're Gonna Die Up There" Passenger On A 15-Hour Flight #583 To Shanghai Dies Three Hours Into The Journey Forcing The Plane To Turn Around



A passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight to Shanghai, China died whilst on board on Monday evening. Delta flight 583 took off from Detroit Metropolitan Airport for Shanghai at 4:35 p.m. but around three hours later, at around 7:15, a 'medical emergency was declared,' according to a Delta spokesperson. The crew made the decision to return to Detroit, landing at 10:35 p.m. 'The aircraft landed without incident and the passenger in question was removed,' the spokesperson said. The passenger was then declared dead by airport medical staff. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office on Tuesday identified the passenger as Yury Rubel and said he died of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. The death was ruled a natural death. The age and hometown of the passenger weren't immediately available. Flight 583 was then rescheduled and took off at 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday for China. Source
