British Jets Scrambled For Second Day In Response To Unidentified Aircraft

British jets scrambled for second day in response to unidentified aircraft

The United Kingdom launched fighter jets on Thursday against unidentified aircraft approaching an "area of interest" just a day after intercepting four Russian military aircraft approaching the country. "Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighters from RAF Lossiemouth, supported by a Voyager Tanker from RAF Brize Norton, have been launched against aircraft approaching the UK area of interest," a Royal Air Force (RAF) spokesman said, according to Reuters. "We will not be offering any additional detail on this ongoing operation until complete," the spokesman added. The military routinely intercepts aircraft that are in the U.K.'s "area of interest," Reuters noted The latest incident comes only a day after the RAF "intercepted and escorted" four Russian strategic bombers. Officials noted that the Russian aircraft did not enter U.K. airspace. The RAF has said in the past that Russian aircraft entering its international airspace zone can pose a threat to air traffic if there is no communication with controllers. Source
