Southwest Airlines plane is grounded when passenger on flight sees 'flames coming out of the wing' as it prepared for takeoff A Southwest Airlines flight from Detroit to St Louis was grounded when a passenger spotted one of the plane’s wings was on fire just before takeoff.
David Fiedor was sitting in the back of the aircraft during Flight 1863 which was scheduled to take off this past Thursday from Detroit Metro Airport when he noticed something was amiss.
‘I heard a muffled thud,’ he told MLive. ‘Similar to when the landing gear is engaging.
‘I didn't think much of it until I looked out the window and saw the wing had flames coming out from the bottom.
‘The flames were coming out intermittently.’
Fiedor said there were about 80 passengers on board, but he was virtually alone in the rear.
Since he was the only one who saw the fire, he removed his seat belt and approached a flight attendant. Source
