Flights at an airport in Ireland have been temporarily suspended after a plane carrying US troops caught fire and had to be evacuated on the runway.
The brakes of the Boeing 763 overheated and burst into flames, forcing it to cancel its imminent departure from Shannon Airport in Ireland.
Smoke could be seen coming from the plane but all passengers were evacuated safely. The plane is believed to be an Omni Air operated flight, a US-based private airline that transports personnel for the US army.
Air traffic controllers noticed the fire and saw smoke coming from the plane's landing gear as it taxied along the runway.
The airport tweeted: 'We can confirm that an incident has occurred at Shannon Airport involving a Boeing 763 aircraft. Emergency services are in attendance. All passengers and crew have disembarked. Airport operations temporarily suspended.
'We are currently working to remove the aircraft from the scene of the incident so we can resume safe operations on the runway. This may take some time.' Source
